When i was 6 my clothes were constantly tattered and torn my family could not get me any beter ones either. This wasnt even one of the hardest unfairnesses i went through as a slave.

This is in the New York after a battle my friend and I had been captured by the union which was our plan. We also planned on telling the union everything we knew about the confederate army.

I am talking with one of the white commanders of the confederate army. He talks about his views on slavery and we have a mature debate untill another white man walks in when he calls me a nigger and to get out of his sight

I am being reasigned to a new location. I am posing for a picture so the new confederate camp can identify me as a drummer.

The entire Plantation Had grown when i came back to visit one time. The was a battle in alabama and i wanted to see my family so i snuck back onto the plantation. They said Master made breeding madatory and population had almost doubled.

By 1861 there were more free states then slave states and while the war was only just begining i was optimistic that the Union really could win.

This was the entire slave community i am the one sitting in the front sitting up with a hat on. This was the day before the slave auction we all knew someone was being sold. It was me.

Here i am with a musket. For a special assignment i was told i had to go into the battle field. I had never been so nervous in my life.

When i was younger i always smiled and did my work contently this is me working on the plantation

When i was a boy this was the men of the plantation i am the one on the far right. We are all very tired because we have been over worked.
